摘要 1363237 Attaching articles to strips; endless conveyers VEREINIGTE DRAHTWERKE AG 19 April 1971 [7 April 1970] 25698/71 Heading B8C and B8A [Also in Divisions B2 B4 and F2] Nail plates are fabricated by placing a carrier web 17, Fig. 1B on a conveyer element 16 which is moved in steps, inserting nail pins N, Fig. 6, which are pointed at both ends into a first transverse strip of the carrier web during each standstill period of the conveyer element, applying liquid adhesive to a second transverse strip of the carrier web and thereafter passing the carrier web with the nail pins thereon through a heating zone 29 to set the adhesive. As shown, the carrier web 17 is of laminated construction consisting of a bottom plastics foil 19, Fig. 1A, a hard foamed plastics layer 20, metallic foil 21 and a glass fibre mat 22. After leaving the heating zone 29, the completed nail plate web is raised off the conveyer element by a roller 31 and is subsequently cut in desired lengths. The conveyer element 16 comprises a series of perforated metal plates 32, Figs. 3 and 5, hinged together, each consisting of longitudinal webs 33, transverse webs 34 and tooth members 35 which are engaged by a pneumatically operated stepping pawl 43 and a locking pawl 44, the arrangement being such that the conveyer element and carrier web are advanced, step-by-step, a distance corresponding to the distance between the two transverse rows of perforations on the plates 32. The nail pins N are fed from charging devices 54 along shoots 55 to an insertion mechanism 53. Each device 54 comprises an internally grooved rotary drum (69), Fig. 8 (not shown), having a longitudinal channel 76 through which nail pins are ejected as the drum is accelerated to and then decelerated from a position adjacent its respective shoot 55. The pins are delivered along grooves 55a of the shoots 55 to a catch plate 62 of the mechanism 53 which comprises a stationary housing 56, an injection box 59 having injection combs 61 attached thereto, the prongs of which correspond to the number of pins N of a single transverse row. The catch plate 62, driven by an air cylinder (63), Fig. 7 (not shown), is movable vertically and is formed with grooves 62a which co-operate with the prongs of the combs 61, and is provided with a magnetic rod 64 which erects the nail pins to a vertical position and to retain them on the catch plate 62. In operation, downward movement of the catch plate upon actuation of air cylinders 60 moves the catch plate to a position above the web 17. Air cylinder (63) is then actuated to strip the nail pins from the plate 62 and push them into the web. The conveyer element, then carries the web to an adhesive dispensing unit 28 which comprises an adhesive dispensing nozzle 88, Fig. 11, which is movable transversely of the web 17 by means of a drive wheel 91 and cable 89. The drive wheel 91 is also connected by a chain 93, Fig. 12, and through a double acting air cylinder 96 with a metering pump 98 which supplies adhesive to the nozzle 88 under the control of a terminal switch device 111 which is actuated by the stepwise movement of the web 17 to operate a valve 109 controlling the operation of a piston 95 of the cylinder 96 and thus of the pump 98. The web then passes to the heating zone 29 which comprises a tunnel, a first part of which includes a heater chamber 116, Fig. 1B, through which cold air from a second part is heated and directed over the web which thereafter passes through the second part in which it is cooled.
