PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a satisfactory image by suppressing the occurrence of a pressure omission part. SOLUTION: A fixing unit 10 in an image forming apparatus 1 includes: a rotating endless fixing belt 14; a fixing roller 11 disposed inside the fixing belt 14; a pressure roller 15 disposed on the outside of the fixing belt 14 with the fixing belt 14 between the fixing roller 11 and the pressure roller 15 itself; and a nip extending member 21 disposed inside the fixing belt 14 and further upstream than the fixing roller 11 in the rotating direction A of the belt and forming a nip between the pressure roller 15 and the member 21 itself. The nip extending member 21 is held by a holder 20 disposed so as to be through the inside of the fixing belt 14, and formed from a plate material having a nip forming part 21a curving along the circumferential face of the pressure roller 15.
