PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer roller, preventing transition of contaminants from the transfer roller to a carrying belt and an intermediate transfer belt as much as possible and surely obtaining a good image even in a high-temperature and high-humidity environment. SOLUTION: This transfer roller, in performing color printing using an intermediate transfer belt system or tandem system, transfers a toner image formed on a photoreceptor to the intermediate transfer belt or the recording medium by applying voltage to the intermediate transfer belt by contacting with the back of the intermediate transfer belt or a recording medium carrying belt, or applying voltage to a recording medium through the recording medium carrying belt. The transfer roller is characterized by including a conductive elastic layer 52 formed of a rubber composition which includes one or more kinds of rubber selected from nitryl rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber and butadiene rubber and epichlorohydrin rubber, and which is mixed with high resistance oil.
