A card reader (1) is provided with a contact-type information processing means, which records or reproduces information by bringing a magnetic head (18) or the like into contact with a card (2); a noncontact-type information processing means which records or reproduces information by electromagnetic induction in noncontact with the card (2); a transfer path for transferring the card (2); and a stopper (24) for regulating transfer of the card. In the card reader (1), a noncontact-type information processing means is provided with a reader-side noncontact-type communication antenna (23) which can transmit/receive information between the reader-side noncontact-type communication antenna and a card-side noncontact-type communication antenna provided in the card (2), and the reader-side noncontact communication antenna (23) is arranged in the vicinity of the transfer path, and the stopper (24) is arranged in a region where the noncontact-type information processing means can communicate with the card-side noncontact-type communication antenna. The stopped card (2) further moves in a direction to be away from the regulating means or in a direction toward the regulating means and stops, then, communicates with the reader-side noncontact-type communication antenna (23).
