PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is excellent in electrostatic durability, and prevents damage of a photoreceptor even when used over a long period, thus ensures high image quality and a long service life without causing image defects. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a photoreceptor; a charging device; an image exposure device; a development device; a transfer device; and a cleaning device, wherein the photoreceptor has a photosensitive layer containing a charge generating material and a charge transporting material, formed on a conductive substrate, and as the charge transport material, a naphthalene tetracarboxylic acid diimide derivative represented by general formula (1) is contained, and the cleaning device has a brush whose tip has a loop shape and which rotates while being contacted with the photoreceptor, wherein the tip side of the loop in the brush is faced to the upstream side in the rotating direction of the brush from the root part. In the general formula (1), R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>represent a substituted or non-substituted alkyl group, a substituted or non-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon group, or a substituted or non-substituted aromatic heterocyclic group, and R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>, R<SP>6</SP>and R<SP>7</SP>represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a substituted or non-substituted alkyl group or a substituted or non-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon group, and they may be same or different.
