<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel coupler, a pigment using the coupler, a coloring agent, and a coloring method. <P>SOLUTION: The coupler is expressed by general formula (1) or (2). In the formulas, substituents X may be same or different, and represents a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a nitro group, an alkyl group, an alkoxyl group, and a non-substituted or substituted phthalimide methyl group.
