PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To return oil separated from blow-by gas to an oil pan without receiving the influence of the heat of cylinders and the pressure pulse of a crank chamber. SOLUTION: A breather chamber 20 communicated with a crank chamber 5 is formed between a first and a second banks Ba and Bb, and an oil separator 22 for separating oil from blow-by gas is arranged in the breather chamber 20. On the other hand, oil return grooves 42a and 42b extending in the vertical direction are formed in a junction surface of one end of a cylinder block 3 along the axial direction of a crank shaft 1 and a cover member 16 joined with the one end of the cylinder block 3, and upper end parts of the oil return grooves 42a and 42b are communicated with an oil outlet 39 of the oil separator 22, and lower ends thereof are communicated with an oil return pipe 44 fixed to a lower part of the cylinder block 3, and an open lower part of the oil return pipe 44 is sunk in the stored oil 13 in the oil pan 8.
