PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated member for a cutting tool which can extend its service life under the severe cutting condition such as the high-speed cutting, the high feed cutting, the high hardness of materials to be cut. SOLUTION: In the coated member with a coating film being coated on a surface of a base material, at least one of the coating film is a hard film of a cubic metal compound consisting of at least one metal element M to be selected from Al, Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo and W, and at least one non-metallic element X to be selected from C, N and O, and the X-ray intensity distribution ofα-axis in the dot diagram of positive electrode in relation to (220) surface of the hard film indicates the highest intensity in the range ofαangle of 80-90°.
