In processing the registration of iris data at an iris recognition dictionary, during a period in which an operator aligns an eye, an iris circle/pupil circle extracting unit successively extracts an iris circle and a pupil circle from an eye image that is captured by an image capture unit. The iris circle or the pupil circle is superimposed with the capture image as a basis on the extraction and the superimposed image is successively displayed on a display screen, so as to make it easy to visually recognize whether the iris circle and the pupil circle are acquired at a correct position and whether the iris is correctly detected. When the operator confirms the display to judge that the drawn iris circle or pupil circle is consistent with the iris or pupil of an actual eye image, the operator pushes down a registration start key at an input unit and can carry out the registration.
