PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for transferring a long material, which, after forming a first coil at one edge part of a number of long materials, continuously easily form a second coil at the other edge part of the material and efficiently conduct winding, so that production efficiency is improved. SOLUTION: The long material transfer device 50 includes: a coil introduction guide 52, which is arranged on the extension lines of a first coil winding line 25 and a second coil winding line 26, and carries in one edge part of a rectangular wire W to house the wire on the extension line of the first coil winding line 25; a guide body transfer mechanism 60 for moving the coil introduction guide 52 from on the extension line of the first coil winding line 25 onto the extension line of the second coil winding line 26; and a rectangular wire introducing and sending unit 70, which sends the rectangular wire W, with the other edge part thereof made to lead, into the second coil winding line 26 from the coil introduction guide 52 on the extension line of the second coil winding line 26.
