PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform proper white balance adjustment without using a light source detection frame. SOLUTION: Color information of each divided area on a photographic image plane is calculated (S104), respective pieces of color information are aimed at in order on color coordinates to form a plurality of groups around the respective pieces of aimed color information in succession, and mean coordinates in the groups are regarded as representative color information (S112, S114). Further, respective pieces of representative color information are aimed at in order to re-form groups around the respective pieces of representative color information, and mean coordinates in the respective groups are regarded as new representative color information (S116, S118). Thus, groups are re-formed repeatedly until the representative color information has the same value, the final representative color information is used to calculate a correction value (S130), and the white balance of an image signal is adjusted (S140). When there are a plurality of groups, a group which has low saturation and is light is decided as a first light source color group and a second light source color group is obtained based on the lightness difference and saturation different therefrom and a distribution state of respective groups on the image plane to calculate a correction value.
