PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a content retrieval apparatus which can intuitively and easily select a scene, that a user desires to watch, with comparatively small throughput, and is less in erroneous detection, and to provide a display method thereof. SOLUTION: In a DVD/HDD device 10, a frame image is analyzed by a face detection section 22 of an analysis unit 14, a face image is detected from the frame image as analytic information and on the basis of the frame image, scene switching of a moving image is detected by a scene switching detection section 24. A weight calculation section 26 calculates weight information to each of personae detected in the frame image, the analyzed and detected face image, the information of scene switching and the calculated weight information are time-sequentially stored in a storage 16, respectively, and the stored information is read from the storage 16 by an image generation section 28.
