<p>A charging method and system are disclosed. The method involves the following steps: the mobile switch center emulation arranges the sending period of a dual tone multiple frequency signal, and periodically indicates a media gateway to send the dual tone multiple frequency signal to a user terminal based on the arranged sending period; responding to the indication of the mobile switch center emulation, the media gateway sends the dual tone multiple frequency signal to the user terminal; and the user terminal charges based on the number of the received dual tone multiple frequency signals. With the invention, it can achieve the charging of the user terminal by sending the dual tone multiple frequency signal on media side.</p>
