The surface is partially enriched by gas nitriding with nitrogen. The bearing housing is partially glass bead-blasted after the enrichment with nitrogen or carbon and before the passivation. The method is carried out in area of a through-opening (8) for an adjusting shaft (6) of variable turbine geometry on the bearing housing. The method for surface treatment of a bearing housing for a charging device in a motor vehicle, comprises enriching a surface of the bearing housing with nitrogen or carbon, and partially or laterally passivating the surface. The surface is partially enriched by gas nitriding with nitrogen. The surface is passivated through oxidation. The bearing housing is partially glass bead-blasted after the enrichment with nitrogen or carbon and before the passivation. The method is carried out in an area of a through-opening (8) for an adjusting shaft (6) of variable turbine geometry on the bearing housing or in an area of a bearing for a wave of a rotor on the bearing housing, or in an area of a support surface of variable turbine geometry on the bearing housing. Independent claims are included for (1) a bearing housing for a charging device in a motor vehicle; and (2) a charging device for a motor vehicle.
