<p>The method involves producing a visual reference by a driver, depending upon the vehicle condition or traffic condition. The driver is made alert by a flash on the divergence of the vehicle condition or traffic condition. The intensity of the flash, is adapted to the visibility of the driver. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a device for supporting a driver; and (2) a driver assistance system for a vehicle.</p>
