PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter for use in filtration capable of keeping suitable porosity, excellent in water resistance, acid resistance, chemical resistance and alkali resistance, and having high hydrophilicity, a long filtering life and an excellent permeation flow rate, prepared by modifying the surface of a microporous membrane comprised of a crystalline polymer and having an asymmetric pore-structure subsequent to making a cartridge from the same; and a method of producing a filter for use in filtration. SOLUTION: The filter for use in filtration constituted of a microporous membrane of a crystalline polymer includes a plurality of pores, with a mean diameter of the pores present in a first face thereof larger than that of the pores present in a second face thereof and with the mean pore diameter continuously changing in the direction of from the first face toward the second face. In the filter, at least a part of the microporous membrane of a crystalline polymer is subjected to a surface modification treatment subsequent to making a cartridge from the same.
