The oven (1) has a heating chamber (3) for heating a preform (5) with infrared radiation. A holding device (7) is provided for holding the preform during heating such that a section of the preform to be conditioned is arranged in the heating chamber and a section not to be conditioned is arranged outside the heating chamber. The heating chamber has an oval, particularly elliptical cross-section or a polygonal, particularly rectangular cross section.
