PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device capable of avoiding any steering return speed more than requested by limiting the control of an electric motor while a steering wheel is substantially in a free state. SOLUTION: The electric power steering device comprises a target steering torque operation means 40 for obtaining the target steering torque Tm based on the steering angleθand the vehicle speed v, a feedback control operation means 57 for calculating the feedback control Dfb based on the difference between the target steering torque Tm and the steering torque T, an upper limit output obtaining means 51 for obtaining the return upper limit output D<SB>L</SB>of an assist motor M based on the steering angleθand the vehicle speed v, and an output control means 58 for controlling the output of the feedback control Dfb calculated by the feedback control operation means 57 to be not more than the return upper limit output D<SB>L</SB>obtained by the upper limit output obtaining means 51.
