The solid material-containing biological extract is subjected to the filtration step before the high pressure treatment, thus results in a filtrate and a filter cake, where the filter cake is subjected to the high pressure treatment. Preferred Components: The solid material-containing biological extract is provides as suspension comprising a liquid phase and solid material particles are dispersed in it, where one part of the mixture of biologically active substance is dissolved in the liquid phase and another part is bound to the solid particles. At least one of the biologically active substances is an enzyme and the enzymatic activity of the solid material-containing biological extract after the high pressure treatment corresponds to at least 50%, preferably more than 80% of the enzymatic activity of the solid material-containing biological extract before the high pressure treatment. The viral infectivity of the solid material-containing biological extract after the high pressure treatment is reduced by a factor of greater than 1 or 4 log 10compared to the viral infectivity before the high pressure treatment. The load of the solid material-containing biological extract having toxic substances after the high-pressure treatment is not higher than before the high-pressure treatment. The germ load with non-spore formers after the high pressure treatment is below the detection limit or less than 50 CFU/g.
