PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic appliance capable of securing the attachability/detachability of an authentication card to/from a housing and downsizing the housing. SOLUTION: The portable electronic appliance includes: a housing 2 which has a first plane 2b extending along a flat surface that includes a longitudinal direction D1 and a lateral direction D2, a second plane 2c extending along the flat surface that includes the longitudinal direction D1 and thickness direction D3 and adjacent to the lateral direction D2 on the first plane 2b, and a battery storage recessed part 60 for storing a battery Q via an opening part 61 formed across the first plane 2b and the second plane 2c; a battery cover member 90 which is attached to the housing 2 in the lateral direction D2 and covers a first opening part 61A opening on the first plane 2b side of the opening part 61 and a second opening part 61B opening on the second surface 2c side; and a card holder 80 which has a card insertion hole 83 in which an authentication ID is inserted via the second opening part 61B and holds the authentication card ID inserted in the card insertion hole 83 in the lateral direction D2.
