PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid discharge apparatus easy to remove a deposit on a part in the vicinity of a discharge opening where a discharge path in a head cap is opened to the head cap, which solves such the problem that the deposit is concentrated and easy to adhere to that part, and a head maintenance apparatus. SOLUTION: The liquid discharge apparatus includes: a liquid discharge head provided with a discharge nozzle for discharging the liquid; the head cap for sealing a nozzle forming surface on which the discharge nozzle of the liquid discharge head is formed; a supply and discharge path communicating with the head cap; a suction means communicating with the supply and discharge path to suck a gas or a liquid in the head cap through the supply and discharge path; and a cleaning liquid supply means communicating with the supply and discharge path to supply the cleaning liquid into the head cap through the supply and discharge path.
