<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound volume adjusting apparatus which changes sound volume on the basis of user operation to adjust the sound volume, while preventing the volume from being changed to an unintended large volume level. <P>SOLUTION: When an AV amplifier 1 receives a sound volume setting change request from a DAP 2, the AV amplifier 1 determines, when a change amount of a sound volume setting value exceeds an allowable maximum change amount stored in a storage, that the change request is an excessive request. For example, when a difference between the preceding sound volume setting value and an accepted sound volume setting value exceeds a threshold, the AV amplifier 1 determines that the change request is an excessive request. When the AV amplifier 1 determines that the change request is the excessive request, the AV amplifier 1 changes the sound volume by a change amount which is equal to or smaller than the allowable maximum change amount.
