The present invention provides methods for producing an aggregate containing a rostal hypothalamic tissue and a rostal cranial ectodermal tissue, a pituitary progenitor tissue and a pituitary hormone-producing cell by forming a homogeneous aggregate of a stem cell from a pluripotent stem cell, e.g., an ES cell, seeded at a high cell concentration using a serum-free culture medium (preferably containing substantially no proliferation factor or no insulin component)and subjecting the formed aggregate to floating culture.
