PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate futility in maintenance work and to enhance the operating rate of a vertical roller mill by making it possible to monitor the wear state of a pressure roller so as to appropriately determine the maintenance time. SOLUTION: The vertical roller mill includes: a grinding table 2 which is rotatively driven; a plurality of roller pressing devices 15 each of which pressurizes the pressure roller 1 against the grinding table and grinds a lumpy material 35 on the grinding table; a supply pipe 22 through which the lumpy material is supplied to the grinding table; a detector 19 which is disposed on each of the roller pressing devices and detects rotation of the pressure roller; and a controller 31 to which a detection result detected by the detector is inputted, wherein the controller retains the data of standard rotation number in such a state that the pressure roller is not worn, compares the rotation number of the pressure roller detected by the detector with the standard rotation number and judges the wear state of the pressure roller based on a deviation of the rotation number.
