<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat-insulating material for building materials having satisfactory flame retardant performance and excellent mechanical strength and dimensional stability with a flame retardant that is highly safe for environments and organisms. <P>SOLUTION: Foamable polystyrene resin particles for the production of a heat-insulating material for building materials are obtained by a melt extrusion method in which a flame retardant and a foaming agent are added to a polystyrene resin in a resin feed unit and kneaded, the resulting molten resin containing the flame retardant and foaming agent is directly extruded into a cooling liquid from small holes in a die attached to the leading end of the resin feed unit, and simultaneously with the extrusion, the extrudates are cut and solidified by cooling by contact with the liquid to obtain foamable polystyrene resin particles. The flame retardant contained in the foamable polystyrene resin particles contains a bromine atom in the molecule, has a bromine-containing component content of <70 mass%, has a benzene ring in the molecule, and has a 5 mass% decomposition temperature of 200-300°C. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
