<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system applicable to various printed matters different in light transmittance. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting system 1 includes a light source 15 and a light guide plate 13. The light guide plate 13 has front surfaces 131 and 132, and a side surface 133 on which light from the light source 15 is incident. The printed matter having some light transmittance is disposed on the front surface 131 side. In this case, the lighting system functions as a back light.
