PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of cutting steel capable of improving a service life of a cutting tool.SOLUTION: In the method of cutting steel, steel to be cut that includes 0.2-1.0 mass% Si, 0.9-2.0 mass% Mn, and Al regulated to be at 0.02 mass% or less, and has a hardness of 35-45 HRC is cut by the cutting tool of which the working face is coated with a hard film of a Cr-based nitride or an AlCr-based nitride. The cutting speed is preferably 100 m/min or higher. The hard film is desired to be a Cr-based nitride, or desired to additionally include Si. The steel to be cut preferably includes S≤0.05 mass%, and/or Al is regulated to be at 0.005 mass% or less. |
