PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pitting-corrosion retarder which surely retards the formation of pitting corrosion by forming a film which is effective for retarding the pitting corrosion and is superior in corrosion resistance and durability, on the surface of a copper-based member such as a copper pipe which comes in contact with a water system such as a cooling water system, by adding a small amount of the chemical agent to the copper-based member, and to provide a method for maintaining a stable operation of equipment and extending the life of the equipment.SOLUTION: The pitting-corrosion retarder forms the film superior in corrosion resistance and durability on the surface of the copper-based member by being added into the water system with which the copper-based member comes in contact; and includes a compound that is a nitrogen-containing unsaturated five-membered ring constituted by nitrogen atoms positioned at the first and the third positions and carbon atoms positioned at the second, the fourth and the fifth positions, in which the carbon atom at the second position of the nitrogen-containing unsaturated five-membered ring is substituted with a hydrophobic group. |
