<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state image pickup device which, having a plurality of horizontal transfer sections, can perform separate transfers between the horizontal transfer sections surely, reduces the power consumption for horizontal transfers and has its pin counts for supplying drive signals reduced to a possible minimum. <P>SOLUTION: An electrode 8 of a horizontal CCD31 is composed of electrically isolated electrode elements 8A and 8B, so that for separate transfers performed, different drive signals are applied respectively thereto, forming a potential gradient under the electrode near a channel center portion. Also, the electrode element 8A is shaped in such a way that its side on a vertical CCD6 side is short and its side on an electrode 5 side in a separate transfer section is long, thereby producing a narrow channel effect and forming a desired potential gradient throughout under the electrode element 8A. This arrangement ensures that, even for a CCD which has had its gate width increased, a good transfer efficiency in separate transfers will be obtained without having to further divide the electrode element 8A, whereby an increase in pin counts can be suppressed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
