1381807 Endless conveyers FLEETWOOD SYSTEMS nc 20 March 1972 [22 March 1971] 12928/72 Heading B8A Stacks of can ends 14 are delivered on demand to a further apparatus (not shown), by an endless conveyer comprising a pair of spaced chains 20, 20<SP>1</SP> mounting a plurality of carriers 18 capable of resiliently engaging the can ends. Each carrier comprises a main standard 84 mounting a pair of chain links 86, 88 for attachment to the chains 20, 20<SP>1</SP>, and a pair of parallel rods 96 mounted by pairs of leaf springs 98, 100 in said main standard. A base 92, also mounted on the standard, has a pair of parallel grooves 102, 104. In operation a photo-electric device 28, 30 detects a low level of can ends in the further apparatus and initiates the stepwise advancement of the conveyer to align a loaded carrier 18 with a receiving station. A ram 80, connected to a pair of pusher rods 70, is then activated to advance the rods 70 through the said carrier, with the lower ends of the rods engaging respective grooves 102, 104, to forcibly discharge the can ends from the carrier. The rods 70 are then withdrawn to complete the cycle. The intermittent drive for the conveyer is effected by a ram 32 driving a gear-box 34 and the exact positioning of the carrier at the receiving station is ensured by an indexing system 50. |
