PURPOSE: A gas diffusion electrode and a method of manufacturing the same are provided to enable gas diffusion to start from an oxygen consuming electrode since an electro-conductive carrier, a gas diffusion layer and a catalyst activating component are included. CONSTITUTION: A gas diffusion electrode comprises an electro-conductive carrier, porous coated unit, a first surface, a second surface, and valuable metal. The basic material of the porous coated unit is electrochemical active catalyst and a hydrophobic material. The coating has single pore distribution. The first surface faces oxygen containing gas. The second surface faces alkali electrolyte. The valuable metal is a catalyst activating component. The valuable metal is silver or platinum. The pore volume of the coating including catalyst is 10~500 mm^3 / g. The diameter of the pore is within a range of 100~10,000 nm. |
