The method involves deducing elementary constraints subjected to one of components of a driving belt for solicitation at which the driving belt is subjected (11), where the components are formed of a flexible band, reinforcement, wiring and notching bodies. An individual damage state (12) of each component is deduced (11) resulting from the deduced elementary constraints and mechanical and physio-chemical resistances for the component. A damage progressive state (16) of the driving belt is deduced (15) by individuals for the component of the deduced individual damage states successively.
