<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition and a method for forming a coating film, which can form the coating film applicable to various industrial products, especially outside plates of automobiles, and give high chroma, particulate feeling and excellent depth feeling as a whole. <P>SOLUTION: The coating composition is a metallic coating composition which contains two or more scaly interference pigments obtained by coating a translucent scaly substrate with a metal oxide, wherein the scaly interference pigments include a metal oxide-coated alumina flake pigment or a metal oxide-coated mica pigment and a metal oxide-coated glass flake pigment.
