<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To support a user to find the user's preferred document in such an environment where one user can access to reproducing devices shared with many other users, since the recording of huge digital archives with audio, video, text, still picture, etc is possible. <P>SOLUTION: One document is reproduced out of a plurality of documents by a device profile which is set in a reproducing device and is independent from a user identification information. A plurality of document sets are provided for classifying the plurality of documents, and documents within a document set have similarity in one or more features. The device profile accumulates a list of document sets ranked with counter values associated with each document set. A document set is selected based on features associated with random functions applied to the counter values associated with the document set, and a document set ranked as a No. 1 is selected so as to be reproduced with higher priority.
