The method involves connecting a master and a slave with one another by a bidirectional radio connection, and permanently providing a global positioning system-connection between the master and the slave even when the slave has no connection to a satellite for a long time. Internal status information of correlators is stored in a non-volatile memory during measuring intervals. The status information is transmitted to the master and used for detecting the relative position of the master with respect to the slave.
