<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element having high light extraction efficiency, and a method for manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: According to an embodiment, there is provided the organic electroluminescent element comprising a transparent substrate, an intermediate layer, a transparent electrode, an organic light-emitting layer, and a reflective electrode. The intermediate layer includes a plurality of particulates deposited on a main surface of the transparent substrate, and a transparent planarization resin layer which covers the particulates and has a refractive index different from that of the particulates. The transparent electrode is provided on the intermediate layer. The organic light-emitting layer is provided on the transparent electrode.
