<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a lightning surge current through a lightning surge detector externally mounted to a surge detection device. <P>SOLUTION: A lightning surge detector 1 comprises a first terminal part 3 connected to a ground side terminal part of a surge protection device, a second terminal part 4 to which a ground line is connected, a connecting bar 5 connecting the first terminal part 3 and the second terminal part 4, a detection coil 7 which is disposed in the vicinity of the connecting bar 5 and detects a lightning surge current flowing in the connecting bar 5, a waveform processing section which draws a voltage waveform of the detected lightning surge current and outputs a deformation processing waveform, an arithmetic control section which obtains a calculation result of the lightning surge current from a voltage value of the deformation processing waveform, and a display section 40 which displays the calculation result of the lightning surge current.
