DISTANCE ESTIMATION DEVICE, METHOD AND PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a high-speed calculation without requiring a large scale storage device and calculation of a distance accurately by reflecting a realistic movement condition within a city.

SOLUTION: A method includes: obtaining two points in a distance to be estimated; obtaining a mesh included in a rectangle having the two points as two apexes on the diagonal line from storage means storing the total road-distance or the number of intersections indicating a degree of freedom in selecting a route in units of rectangle; calculating the sum c of the number value of the degree of freedom and the sum S of area for a mesh having the two points constituting a rectangle; calculating a parameter p that decreases with a decrease in the sum S of the area and with an increase in the sum c of the number value of the degree of freedom; and estimating a distance using an Lpnorm that uses the coordinates of the input two points and the parameter p.
