<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical pencil which can perform maintenance for the breakage of a writing lead in a slider, and achieves normalization even though the fitting degree of the slider is insufficient after the maintenance. <P>SOLUTION: A stepped part 8a formed in the slider 8 is abutted with an inner wall surface 2a of a barrel tip member 2 between the first moving position to the second moving position of a knock rod 31 accompanying a knocking operation. Thus, the fitted state of the slider 8 to a relay pipe 7 can be normalized at this time even though the fitting degree of the slider to the relay pipe 7 is insufficient in reloading the slider. The tip end of a chuck moves to be projected from a ring-shaped fastening tool to the front side at the second moving position of the knock rod.
