PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spherical sulfated cellulose which has a high sulfur content and which is excellent in the adsorption of proteins, a production process for the same, a protein adsorbing agent containing the above spherical sulfated cellulose and a chromatography apparatus using the same for a filler. SOLUTION: The process for producing spherical sulfated cellulose comprises a step of subjecting spherical cellulose to sulphate esterification using a mixture of N, N-dimethylformamide and sulphuric anhydride.
