The present invention relates to a system and a method for encrypting depth information content based on a DWT domain for depth information content security, which are capable of performing discrete wavelet transform (DWT) of a depth information image, encrypting a coefficient of an acquired subband, and applying reverse DWT with the encrypted subband, thereby obtaining an encrypted image. The method comprises the steps of: (a) performing DWT of depth information of an original image to create subband; (b) selecting a coefficient more than a threshold at the top level of low-frequency subband; (c) encrypting the selected coefficient of the subband; and (d) substituting the encrypted coefficient for the coefficient of the subband and performing inverse discrete wavelet transform (IDWT) of the substituted subband. By the content encryption system and method as described above, visual information of an original image can be hidden by encrypting only a part of the entire image data. In particular, information of an original depth information image cannot be confirmed even by only encrypting 0.048% of data in the entire data.
