PURPOSE:To attain the transmission of data to a reception terminal equipment of the different kind of mode by sending the data while converting it so as to cope with the kind of the reception terminal equipment. CONSTITUTION:When its own terminal equipment is in the mixed mode where the picture element data of an image and the transmission/reception of a a character are transmitted and received, its own terminal equipment sends protocol data to an opposite terminal equipment so as to judge the opposite terminal equipment Is a (class 1) station sending only the image data. When the opposite station is in the class 1, the character data are converted into the image data, the data are compressed and sent at each block. When the opposite station is in the other mode not being the class 1, the data are sent at each block. When the opposite station is a telex, only the character data are sent.
