PURPOSE:To manufacture an extra high tension steel wire having superior ductility by bending a high carbon steel wire rod in at least two directions with rolls each having a specified diameter in a stage for drawing the wire rod into a wire. CONSTITUTION:A high carbon steel wire rod contg., by weight, 0.60-1.0% C, 0.1-2.0% Si and 0.1-2.0% Mn or further contg. one or more among 0.1-1.0% Cr, 0.002-0.5% V, 0.002-0.2% Ti and 0.002-0.2% Nb is drawn into a wire at >=50% reduction of area. During the drawing or after the drawing to a prescribed diameter, the wire rod is bent in two or more directions with rolls each having a diameter D(mm) satisfying 0.002-0.03 ratio of d/D [d is the diameter (mm) of the resulting steel wire]. An extra high tension steel wire having superior ductility and >=(250-100log.d)kg/mm<2> tensile strength can be manufactured.
