In this system of cleaning ground contaminated with oil, the surface of the ground is, without mechanical disturbance, heated up to the combustion temp. of the oil. Variants claimed include the use of one or more burners that are continuously or discontinuously moved over the ground. A number of variants are claimed for the equipment that can be used. USE/ADVANTAGE - The system can be used in coastal areas contaminated by oil from tanker accidents or spillages. Removal of such contamination manually is slow and laborious work, and neutralising the oil chemically also involves problems. The proposed system, which can also be used on contaminated ground inland, is easier, cheaper and quicker than manual clearance, and also solves the problem of sludge disposal.
