PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive device for a rotary electric machine capable of protecting a capacitor against an overvoltage caused by a counter-electromotive force of a motor while preventing an excessive load torque from being generated at the motor as much as possible.SOLUTION: In a case where a reference voltage Vcc>a threshold voltage VLim is established, a power management microcomputer 27 turns on a protection circuit switch 32 (at a step S4). A motor drive microcomputer 30 performs control to simultaneously turn on all switching elements 13u, 13v, and 13w of an inverter 11 (at a step S6). The power management microcomputer 27 determines whether or not an input-output current Icc is larger than a threshold current ILim, and the input-output current Icc>the threshold current ILim is established (at a step S7). In a case where the input-output current Icc>the threshold current ILim is established, the protection circuit switch 32 is turned off. |
