The present invention relates to a method for controlling an electric power steering (EPS) system using the torque value of a constant vehicle velocity for engine start without engine RPM information. More specifically, the method for controlling an EPS system using the torque value of a constant vehicle velocity for engine start without engine RPM information comprises the steps of: (a) detecting the malfunction of a communication line or an engine ECU if engine RPM information is not received to the EPS system during the start of a vehicle; (b) informing a driver of the malfunction state detected in step (a); and (c) supporting the EPS system by driving a motor using the torque value of a constant vehicle velocity as engine RPM information has not been received due to the malfunction of the communication line or the engine. That is, the present invention provides a method for controlling an EPS system using the torque value of a constant vehicle velocity for engine start without engine RPM information as a vehicle driver is enabled to respond to malfunction by driving the motor using the torque value of a constant vehicle velocity, supporting EPS and enabling EPS control even if engine RPM information is not received at the point of engine start due to the malfunction of the communication line or the engine ECU. |
