A circular polarizing plate in which the thickness is suppressed without causing such a trouble as exfoliation even under high temperature high humidity conditions by simplifying the layer structure thereof, and orientation axial angle of an optically anisotropic element composed of a liquid crystal layer having a fixed twisted nematic orientation structure is set arbitrarily with respect to the absorption axis of the polarizing plate so that it can be stuck continuously from the form of long film. The circular polarizing plate in which a polarizing element is clamped between the optically anisotropic element composed of a liquid crystal layer oriented on a cellulose triacetate film and a translucent protective film, and the optically anisotropic element is constituted at least of such an optically anisotropic element as having a phase difference of approximately a quarter of wavelength in the visible light zone, characterized in that the liquid crystal layer includes a liquid crystal film where the twisted nematic orientation structure is fixed.
