摘要 <p>A method of parking a vehicle comprises compensating for distance covered in an undetected direction. The method plans a path to be covered by first ascertaining a trajectory 11 along which the vehicle is to move and when a distance is covered in an undetected direction 13, 17 (e.g. forward or reverse) the trajectory 11 along which the vehicle is to move is extended by a length of the distance covered in the undetected direction 13, 17. The length of the distance covered may be determined by wheel pulse counters and the direction of trajectory 11 may be ascertained by various means, such as yaw sensors, gear engaged detectors, acceleration sensors or optical systems. Objects which lie in the path of the trajectory are detected and a signal may be given to a driver and additional moves are calculated in order to manoeuvre the vehicle into a desired position, e.g. a longitudinal parking space.</p>
