<p>The invention relates to a method for determining a caloric value, in particular the enthalpy h 2, the internal energy u 2, and/or the entropy s 2, of a gas in a second state. The gas is transferred from a known first state to the second state or from the second state to a known first state in a thermodynamic process, in particular in a compression or expansion process in an engine, in a turbine, or in a compressor. In the method, the caloric value is determined with the aid of at least one analytical function f. The at least one analytical function f depends on the temperature T and on the pressure p or on the temperature T and on the specific volume v and has the following form: f(T,p) = g(T)⋅(1+k(p or v, T)).
