PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fault diagnosis method and such capable of identifying a position where a wire is disconnected by utilizing a communication trunk even when a disconnections occur in the communication trunk.SOLUTION: A master machine 3, when a disconnection fault occurs, does not immediately determine that a communication impossible fault of a slave device 5 occurs based on the fact that the slave device 5 does not respond to a call of a token, but determines that a disconnection fault does not occur in a communication trunk between the master machine 3 and the slave device 5 that responded when a communication establishment is tried for a plurality of times and at least one response was received.
